For millions of Latin Americans, the Colombina factory in La Paila is the place where sweet moments are made. For millions of Latin Americans, the Colombina factory in La Paila is the place where sweet moments are made. Like any good immigrant, I know on which bodega shelves to find the food portals to my childhood. I know where to turn, where to crouch, where to bow before the ready-made boxes to make Colombian buñuelos, pandebonos, pandeyucas and arepas. But the one food item I cannot find in San Francisco is the candy of my childhood. I grew, as we say in Colombia, a punta de Bon Bon Bum. The strawberry lollipop was such a central part of my diet, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was made of equal parts Valle del Cauca sugar and red dye No.40. Bon Bon Bums (pronounced like the French bonbon and the English “boom”) are lollipops with a gum center made in tropical flavors commonly found in the country (maracuyá, watermelon, lulo, pineapple, mango). They are the star product of Colombina, the nation’s beloved candy company. Bon Bon Bums are exported to 90 countries, including all of South America, the Caribbean and even Papua New Guinea and China. In much of Latin America, the phra...

The Hector is the first offering by MG (short for Morris Garages) in India, and as far as game plans go, it seems to be perfect . It’s got prominent road presence, a spacious and practical cabin, multiple powertrain options and a lengthy features list. One look at the Hector is enough to let you know the designers at MG haven’t really held back. The front is in line with the current trend of SUV design, where the DRLs take the top spot. The LED DRLs on the Hector merge into the wide chrome grille, and then there are the LED headlamps that share the bumper with the fog lamps (also LED), with a chunky C-shape chrome strip around it. The centre has a faux metal skidplate around the massive honeycomb air dam. Look at it from the side and what immediately stand out are the smart-looking, dual-tone alloy wheels. Apart from that, the edgy theme continues with a prominent crease stretching across the length of the SUV. A chrome beltline accentuates the premium appeal, while the roofrails give it that much-needed SUV cred. At the rear, the sharp-looking LED tail-lights are connected by a reflector that blends in. Step into the Hector’s cabin and what grabs your attention is the sense of ...

Though it may seem like nothing more than a cosmetic issue, keeping your dog’s nails trimmed is important for his health and wellbeing. Unless your dog is very active outdoors, his nails are unlikely to become worn down on their own and if they grow too long, they could break or splinter. There is no hard and fast rule for how often to trim your dog’s nails. Some dog owners like to trim their dog’s nails on a weekly or bi-weekly basis while others wait until they hear their dog’s nails clicking on the floor to give them a trim. Regardless of how often you cut your dog’s nails, it pays to have a high-quality set of trimmers on hand. Nail clippers for dogs come in several different forms. Some are better for small dogs while others work for larger breeds. Because there are so many options to choose from, it can be difficult to know which option is best. Fortunately for you, we’ve done the legwork to bring you our top picks for the best nail clippers for dogs in different categori...

Mila Kunis wears disposable flip-flops after getting a pedicure

Her husband Ashton Kutcher has been hitting Twitter to share his worries about ‘the plastic problem’. But while his environmental concerns are undeniably noble, it seems the actor turned tech investor hasn’t spread the message quite as well at home. Ashton’s actress wife Mila Kunis was seen wearing a disposable pair of plastic flip-flops as she left the nail salon on Friday, while carrying her shoes in a plastic bag. Not got the message: Mila Kunis wears disposable flip-flops and carries her shoes in a plastic bag after getting a pedicure in Los Angeles on Friday Big plans? The mother-of-two was presumably avoiding smudging her new pedicure, as she preps for the weekend Her low key solo outing in Los Angeles came as Ashton wrote on social media: ‘solving the plastic problem is complicated but there are some simple things we can all do.’ Ashton, 41, and Mila, 35, share two children together, two-year-old son Dimitri and four-year-old daughter Wyatt. An insider shared recently: ‘They married their best friends and have continued to grow in their relationship by openly communicating and keeping their heads out of the clouds. ‘They are...

Registered in England and Wales. Number 8860726. Advanced persistent threat (APT) groups can sometimes spend a substantial amount of money mounting attacks on large, well-protected organizations. But for every dollar they spend, the payoff can be four times as much or more, a new study from Positive Technologies has found. The security vendor analyzed the tools and tactics that 29 active APT groups are currently using in campaigns worldwide against organizations in multiple sectors, including finance, manufacturing, and government. For the analysis, Positive Technologies looked at how much these groups have been spending, on average, to gain initial access to a target network and how much they are spending on developing the attack after they gain a foothold. The security vendor considered data both for financially motivated APT groups and separately for groups focused on cyberespionage and spying. The data was obtained from Positive Technologies’ monitoring of active threat groups and from Dark ...

Commentary: Food and beverage cartons should be included among priority recyclable materials

Derric Brown of the Carton Council of North America and Evergreen Packaging says cartons are in demand and have good end markets. As communities across the United States struggle to find new end markets for recyclables affected by China’s import restrictions, one commodity is bucking the trend: food and beverage cartons. Postconsumer cartons continue to be in demand and have good end markets, even at a time when markets for other commodities are decreasing. China has never been a market for bales of grade No. 52 cartons from the U.S., so communities can and should continue to recycle cartons. Cartons are made primarily of high-quality fiber that should not end up in landfills. One common misconception about cartons is that they can’t be recycled or are hard to recycle because they have multiple layers. Gable-top cartons, the kind that package milk, creamer, egg whites and other refrigerated products, are made mostly of paper with thin layers of polyethylene to hold in the liquid. Aseptic, or shelf-stable, cartons that package juice drinks, soups, wine and other nonrefrigerated products also contain a layer of aluminum to block out light and oxygen. Cartons are recyclable, and c...
